Evergreen to Chelsea
The Argyle Academy journeyed to Chelsea on the weekend for a fantastic experience in their development, and it was all achieved with the support of Evergreen members.
Players from the U9 – U14 age groups experienced the challenge of competing against the very best and, as Academy manager Phil Stokes explained, this was the first of many in an ambitious games programme for 2023.
“It was a fantastic experience for our young players to come up against Chelsea, one of the best Academies in the country,” said Phil.
“For our players and our staff, they will have learned a great deal from a tactical and technical perspective.
“Challenging ourselves against Category 1 Academies can only benefit our programme and we will reflect on the experience to ensure we continue to develop our programme moving forward.
“We’ve got an ambitious plan for the next twelve months and the support of Evergreen members will hopefully enable us to reach these targets. Chelsea was the first of many games against Category 1 Academies, with Arsenal also in the pipeline.
“The more we can challenge our players against high quality opposition, the better they will become. The idea is to give our players the right education and games programme to do this.
“The work and support of the Evergreen family will undoubtedly help the development of our players in this period between now and the end of the season.
“The Academy is a holistic programme and there should be a lot of memories that players and families take from their football journey.
“Tours and tournaments, visiting every Academy across a player’s journey is a fantastic ambition, and that is not just limited to England. We want to try to visit Scotland, continue participation in the Super Cup in Northern Ireland, and even play games in Europe.
“Our games programme will only evolve in a positive way by playing different types of opposition.”
