Duo to depart Argyle Women
Plymouth Argyle Women can confirm that Zoe Cunningham will be departing after informing the club she wishes to pursue a new opportunity.
Zoe returned to the club two years ago, having previously represented Argyle from 2016 to 2020. Across that time, she made 130 appearances scoring 59 goals.
In the 2021/22 campaign she was awarded the Players’ Player of the Season award in the FAWNL and came away with three individual awards at our club End of Season Awards for the 2022/23 season.
Cunningham was also a Devon Womens Senior Cup Champion in 2016, 2018 and 2019, and a FAWNL Division One South West Champion in 2018.
Upon her departure, Zoe commented: “It’s been a privilege to Captain the team over two seasons and I would like to thank all the staff and the players for supporting me through the most difficult season both on and off the pitch.
“I wish everyone at Argyle all the best and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to play at the club for so many years.”
Argyle Women Manager Ryan Perks added: “It has been an incredibly difficult season for Zoe off the pitch but that did not at any point impact her professionalism or performances on it.
“She has made amazing contributions to Argyle over the years, and I would like to wish her all the best for the future.”
Beth Ireland will also depart the club to pursue new opportunities. Beth joined the club in 2020 and went on to make 69 appearances for Argyle, scoring 12 goals during that time.
Perks continued: “Beth has been another great servant to the club. It is a shame to see her depart but departures give opportunities for new players and a chance to refresh the squad ahead of a new season.
“Our attention now turns to the 2023/24 campaign, with a lot of excitement already around the players we have managed to bring in. There are more players to come, and I can’t wait for the season to get started.”
Argyle’s pre season begins this Sunday against Bridgwater United Women at Manadon Sports and Community Hub. The match will be a 14:30 kick off with tickets available to purchase on the gate for £3. Under 3s go free.
