Brickfields

Construction of Brickfields development set to begin this autumn

Construction of the multi-million-pound Brickfields development is beginning this autumn, after plans were approved earlier this year to transform the site into a sporting centre of excellence and asset for the wider Plymouth community.

Now that all the leases and legal contracts have been successfully completed, work can begin on site to construct the outdoor areas. We are expecting those works to start in the next few weeks with the completion of the new facilities phased throughout late 2025 and early 2026. We have appointed Whitebox to manage the construction.

We will be providing regular updates on construction through a monthly email newsletter. If you would like to be kept updated, please sign up here.

This exciting project will deliver…

  • A new permanent home for Plymouth Argyle’s youth wing, the Argyle Academy, and Plymouth Argyle Women.
  • Extensive community and sport facilities which will include:
  • New grass and all-weather 3G pitches
  • Athletics facilities for the City of Plymouth Athletics Club and other users
  • Play zone exclusively for public use
  • Better public access, landscaped public areas, and parking

Alongside this, a new community hub is being created on the site of the former Brickfields sports centre, to be operated by the Argyle Community Trust. It will offer much needed accessible and affordable community space to help connect people and offer a wide range of wellbeing services.

The construction teams will implement measures to prioritise safety and minimise disruption to residents. These include:

  • Traffic marshals to coordinate deliveries to site
  • Deliveries to site will be consolidated where possible to reduce the number of vehicles
  • Deliveries will keep to agreed delivery routes and avoid peak hours where possible
  • Road sweeper to reduce dust
  • Noise, dust and vibration monitors will be installed across the site and regularly checked
  • Access to site will be via the existing Madden Road entrance to ensure traffic is away from the school

A full Construction Management Plan has been submitted to Plymouth City Council to support the creation of a safe environment for residents and staff.

Working hours will be:

  • Monday – Friday: 8am – 6pm
  • Saturday: 8am – 1pm
