On Boxing Day, around 3,000 members of the Green Army converged on Cardiff City, where Argyle drew 2-2 with the Bluebirds.

The Pilgrims’ travelling support continues to be exceptional, even though Argyle are yet to win a game on the road this season. The draw at Cardiff was yet another game, though, where the performance on the field was very good, and on another day Argyle may well have got their victory.

The Greens lined up in a 3-4-3 formation, with Kaine Kesler-Hayden at right wing-back, and following a good start took the lead via Morgan Whittaker. Cardiff’s equaliser came via a mix-up between Matt Butcher and Conor Hazard, with an own-goal credited to the former, and City took the lead early in the second period, with a goal by Karlan Grant.

Argyle never gave in, and equalised via Whittaker’s second. The Pilgrims came the closest to finding the winner, with numerous late chances, including Bali Mumba hitting the bar.

Kesler-Hayden praised the Green Army for their backing, and says that it helps to inspire the team, especially in moments of adversity.

“Throughout the whole season they have been a massive help,” said Kaine. “Look at how they’ve travelled today in numbers. It's Boxing Day and they're all here celebrating with us. Even before the game, they were all fired up.

“We all want to show that we keep fighting and they're like our 12th man out there. They're helping us all the way.

“I like playing [wing-back]. It's a bit more attacking. The team, as you've seen, is very versatile.  There's players that can come in and players that can come off the bench to impact the game.

I thought the formation was good today, but it just shows that we can go in any formation, dominate the game and keep possession.

“It was a crazy game. We started really well, had good possession and got the first goal. It looked like we could get our first away win of the season, but obviously things happened.

“The goal that we conceded - if we can get things like that out of our game, this away win will come. I thought the boys were excellent today and we were unlucky not to get the three points.

“Every game we play, we're in it. We look like we can score at all times. With the players that we have, we can create chances. As long as we keep doing that, we'll get goals. It's just about keeping the ones out of our end and being a bit more structured.

“You've seen throughout the season, the boys have got spirit to come back from behind. To come back today from behind today, though I don't think we should have been in that position, it's good. We'll take a point, it's better than a loss.”
