Argyle's 2024/25 Pre-Season Schedule Confirmed
Argyle will play four domestic pre-season friendlies, and one in Spain, as Wayne Rooney’s Greens prepare for the 2024/25 Sky Bet Championship season.
There will be no home friendlies this season, as a result of the extensive work being done to the Home Park playing surface, and the surrounds. Instead, Argyle will be taking to the road for a series of competitive games before the season begins on the weekend of 9-11 August.
From 7-16 July, Argyle will head to Marbella for a training camp. Supporters will be able to watch an open training session on the 11th, before the Pilgrims host South African side Orlando Pirates at Banús Football Center on the 12th.
On Saturday, 20 July, the Greens will head to the Completely-Suzuki Stadium to meet Cheltenham Town. The Robins were relegated last season and will compete in League Two next term. Cheltenham are now managed by Michael Flynn, who took over after Darrell Clarke’s departure for Barnsley.
Next, Argyle will meet Devon neighbours Torquay United, at Plainmoor, on Saturday, 27 July. The Gulls finished 18th in Vanarama National League South last season, but that was not the real story. Torquay went into administration and their existence looked in doubt, but last week a takeover was completed, and there is new optimism around Torbay, ahead of the new season.
As part of the new group in charge at Torquay, former Argyle boss Neil Warnock has been appointed as a special advisor to the board, with Pilgrims legend Paul Wotton brought in as manager. Former Argyle defender Oscar Threlkeld has also just joined the Gulls.
Three days later, Argyle will play Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium. The Gas, managed by Matt Taylor, finished 15th in League One last season. Rovers’ squad includes recent former Pilgrim James Wilson, as well as Scott Sinclair, who had a loan spell with Argyle in 2006/07.
The final game of the pre-season build-up will take place at Stadium MK, as Argyle face Milton Keynes Dons, on Saturday, 3 August. Jordan Houghton, Brendan Galloway and Matty Sorinola will all be returning to their former home, as the Pilgrims take on Mike Williamson’s side, who reached the League Two play-offs last season but lost in the semi-finals.
We will provide ticket details of all the above games when we have them.
“Our pre-season schedule is shaping up to be competitive and will get the team ready for the Sky Bet Championship season ahead,” said Argyle CEO Andrew Parkinson.
“We would have loved to have had at least one game at Home Park, and while it is a shame we will not get to play in front of the Green Army before the season begins, our ground is going to be improved significantly by the works being carried out.
“The early conclusion to our concert season means work can continue on a range of improvements, including a new, state-of-the-art playing surface, improved pitch surroundings, and integral installed LED advertising boards.
“In recent years, our trips to Spain have set the team up well for the season ahead, and we are pleased to be able to return there this year. When we are able to confirm any dates and venues of matches or events, we will share so that the travelling Green Army are able to attend and share with us.”
