Argyle Women's Preview | Billericay (H)
The FA Women’s National League returns this Sunday for Argyle Women at Coach Road, where the Greens will be looking to begin their season with a bang as they take on Billericay Town.
Argyle’s pre-season has been one of continuous improvement since the return to the footballing season. After a 5-3 defeat to Cardiff City Women in their first pre-season fixture, Ryan Perks’ side has continued to improve both on and off the pitch. A steady influx of new signings and further minutes in the legs saw the Greens triumph over Liskeard, Swansea and Birmingham City’s U21s, scoring a total of 12 goals, conceding five.
“I’ve been really happy with pre-season,” said Perks. “The girls have been excellent in training and their attitudes have been superb. We’ve had some good results in the last few weeks so, hopefully, we can build on that with a win this Sunday.”
Argyle’s return to league action sees them take on Billericay who have also had a successful pre-season. Positive results as well as new additions to the Blues’ side will give the visitors confidence ahead of the opening game of the league. However, Perks is confident that his side will not make it easy for Billericay at Coach Road, and that the players are keen to make their first league match at home a positive one.
He said: “We always focus on ourselves going into matches and do as much homework as we can on the opposition. I think we’ve got the players capable of getting the three points this Sunday and I’m looking forward to our first league match at Coach Road."
Sunday’s match is not the only footballing spectacle of the day. England face Spain in the Women’s World Cup final, with Sarina Wiegman’s Lionesses bidding to make history.
“I think Sarina and the girls will get the win this weekend,” said Ryan. “The team has grown in confidence over the tournament and their experience in finals will get them over the line. We wish them all the best and hopefully, it can be a win for the Lionesses and Argyle this weekend.”
Argyle v Billericay Town will be held at Coach Road, Newton Abbot. Kick-off is at 2.45pm on Sunday. Tickets are £5 for adults, while U3s have free entry. If you cannot make it to the game, then updates are available on social media @ArgyleWFC.
