Argyle Women Sign Caitlin Smith
Argyle Women have signed Caitlin Smith.
The 21-year-old defender joins from Reading and boasts experience with Southampton and Chelsea’s youth setup, as well as Clemson Tigers in the United States of America.
Smith becomes another signing to have played recently for Reading. She played alongside fellow arrivals Georgia Wilson, Ava Kuyken and Lulu Jarvis last season with the Royals.
Starting her youth career on the south coast, a move away from Southampton to Chelsea came about due to her exciting talent on offer. With the Blues, Smith also featured in England’s under-17s, -18s and -19s squads, including UEFA European Championship Qualifiers.
The defender was then offered the opportunity to move stateside and joined NCAA Division 1 side Clemson Tigers. Smith called the South Carolina-based university home for two years, featuring 25 times, whilst also being named to the 2022/23 All-ACC Academic Team for her work off the pitch.
She returned to England in 2023 to join Reading and is excited to get under way at Home Park with the Greens, having trained with the squad for a few weeks prior to signing.
“It’s been good and exciting getting to know the girls, the new environment and everything. I'm really happy to be here,” said Caitlin. “I've been keeping up with the games as much as I can, watching the progress and I feel like this is the right time to come in.
“Georgia, who's been here before, was a big reason for us (Caitlin, Lulu and Ava) coming down and talking to Ryan [Perks]. Having those types of players here, with experiences from other leagues and clubs, was a big driving force to coming down here. It’s exciting to be a part of it from an early stage and see where it can go.”
Caitlin's signing is subject to FA approval.
