Argyle Women set to open season at Home Park
With the 2024/25 season seeing the integration of Argyle Women into the wider football club for the first time, another big step is being made, with the goal of having more games hosted at Home Park than ever before.
The intention is for Ryan Perks’ side to play their first three home games in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division at Home Park, with the hope being that more fixtures will follow during the campaign.
Further games at the Theatre of Greens will be arranged depending on the scheduling of men’s first-team games following Sky TV selections.
“In each of the last two seasons, we have held two women’s fixtures at Home Park, often in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup, with excellent turnouts and superb atmospheres,” said Neil Dewsnip, Argyle Director of Football.
“It is superb news for the club, and for women’s football in the South West, that we are able to ensure that our team play on our new, state-of-the-art playing surface, in the stadium we all call home, in front of the fantastic Green Army.
“It is a further indication of our commitment to Argyle Women’s integration into the football club and gets us all excited about the season ahead.”
Joanne Moseley, newly appointed Head of Women’s Football Operations, said: “It’s a big step for the team, and for the club, that our first three home fixtures will be played in such a brilliant setting.
“We are thankful to the Devon FA for the games we played at Coach Road, Newton Abbot, last season, as well as to Torpoint Athletic for use of The Mill. However, it feels right that Argyle should play matches in the city of Plymouth, and to be able to begin the campaign at Home Park is a perfect way to kick off a new era.”
Argyle Women’s Head Coach, Ryan Perks, added: “Every time we have played at Home Park in the last few seasons, the players have all raised their game.
“To use the professional facilities, play in front of a larger crowd, and to have the general feel that Home Park has, can only be of benefit to us. We can’t wait to get started.”
The first match set for Home Park is against Oxford United on Sunday, 25 August. Last season, a thrilling Adobe Women’s FA Cup Third Round tie between the two ended with the Greens winning on penalties.
The game saw an injury-time Fern Orchard equaliser to send it to extra-time, a thunderbolt Imy Crawford strike to level the game once again, and then a nerve-jangling penalty shoot-out, which the Greens won. Anything approaching that level of excitement will make for a fitting opening to the season at the Theatre of Greens.
The fixtures list for the season was released on Monday. You can find it here. Information on ticketing, and other logistical information pertaining to Home Park fixtures, will follow in due course.
