Argyle Women Preview | Watford (A)
Argyle travel to Watford on Sunday afternoon for a FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division tie at Vicarage Road.
After beating the Hornets in the league cup competition earlier in the season, Watford claimed three points in the first league fixture between the two sides in Devon, coming away as 4-0 victors.
Following a tough defeat to Exeter City in the Devon Derby earlier in the week, Head Coach James Bradley is extremely excited about the opportunity at hand in the near-22,000 seater stadium.
“I love it when you have a two-game week because you're straight into the next one,” Bradley told Argyle TV. “It will be a tough game and opposition, but I think we're ready to go. We had a good training session on Saturday morning and spirits are high, so we’re looking forward to the game now.
“We decided to give the players some days of rest after Wednesday night. I thought it was a really intense game, quite an emotional game as well, so they needed to have that downtime.
“I think we need to continue with what we did with our intensity, fight, passion and work rate, but we must find that little extra key pass in the final third. That will be important, just having that little bit of calmness when we're in possession to give those front players the best chance to put the ball in the net.
“Playing at Vicarage Road adds to the excitement. I'm excited to coach in a really nice stadium. The venue is going to be fantastic, so for the staff, players, and everyone involved, I think it's going to be a great day. We’ll go and give it our absolute best.”
Defender Lois Edwards played for the Hornets earlier in her young career. Argyle’s January signing is delighted to finally have the opportunity to play at Vicarage Road, after missing out through injury whilst at Watford.
She told Argyle TV: “I’m really excited. It’s a big opportunity for us to go there, show what we can do and pick up three points.
“I know it's a lovely pitch and I'm sure there'll be lots of fans, so I'm quite excited for that as well. I've watched a few games there but never played, so I'm looking forward to it.
“I think we had a positive performance against Exeter, but it was just frustrating that we conceded so late on. We have to take the fight and determination we showed from that, build on it, create a few more chances and stick to the plan.
“We’ve had a great week of training, so if we stick together then we've got a good chance to get a good result.”
