Academy Vacancy | Strength & Conditioning Coach

Plymouth Argyle Academy are looking for a Strength & Conditioning coach to join the Academy Sports Science department, working primarily with age groups Under-9 to Under-16. It is critical that the successful applicant understands the importance of a long-term athletic development approach within youth football.

The chosen individual would be required to work the following evening gym & training sessions, and occasionally support the Head of Academy Sports Science with planning and sessions when required:

  • Mondays: 5.30pm to 7.30pm
  • Tuesdays: 5pm to 6.30pm
  • Thursdays: 5.15pm to 8pm

QUALIFICATIONS:

EssentialDesirable
  • BSc Sports & Exercise Science or a similar undergraduate degree
  • FA Level 1 Introduction to First Aid in Football (IFAiF)
  • FA Safeguarding workshop
  • MSc Strength & Conditioning or a similar postgraduate degree
  • UKSCA / BASES Accreditation (or working towards / a desire to obtain)
  • FA Level 2 Emergency First Aid in Football (EFAiF)

KEY OUTPUTS:

  • To assist in creating training programmes in conjunction with appropriate team staff and the individual players’ needs analysis.
  • To contribute to the development of sport science resources and educational aids. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To assist with the co-ordination and implementation of sports science support services to players within the Plymouth Argyle Academy in conjunction with all academy staff.
  • To assist in the delivery of on-field and gym based athletic development sessions.
  • To oversee weekly training intensities and devise long-term programmes for players with reference to age group specific needs in association with Academy staff.
  • To assist with sports science testing and monitoring with all players across the Academy.
  • To employ recovery strategies that ensure optimal training and match time.
  • To ensure players are prepared physiologically for the task ahead – be it a game or training, through structured age-appropriate warm-ups and activation sessions.
  • To contribute to the development of sport science resources and educational aids.
  • To contribute where appropriate to all age group training.
  • To liaise and maintain communication links to other members of the Plymouth Argyle Academy support team.
