Argyle Under-18s suffered their first Merit League One defeat of the season as three second-half goals gave Oxford United victory.

Argyle applied pressure on their hosts from the opening whistle and had an early chance to take the lead but Kieran Edworthy's drive flew wide.

Will Jenkins Davies’ free-kick was headed home only for the assistant to flag for offside before a rare Oxford attack saw Zak Baker make the save of the game to deny Leo Snowden.

Argyle were soon back on the offensive with Jenkins Davies trying his luck from the left-hand side of the area before Caleb Roberts' effort was cleared off the line by Richard McIntyre.

The visitors looked to be taking the lead, a minute before the break, but Oxford goalkeeper Monty Marriott made an incredible save to keep out Jenkins Davies powerful downward header.

It was the home side who emerged from the interval stronger with Louis Griffiths and Snowden both on target in the opening 15 minutes to leave Argyle facing a 2-0 deficit.

With Argyle pushing forward Oxford made the most of the space to complete the scoring on 83 minutes as Josh Ihaeancho lobbed the advancing Baker.
