Academy report | Luton Town 1 Argyle 1
Argyle maintained their unbeaten start to life in the Merit League with an excellent 1-1 draw away at in-form Luton Town.
The Hatters had won four of their recent five games, but had to show some muscle to wrestle the win away from Argyle after Jack Endacott had given them the lead.
Argyle had a fine first half, despite having Freddie Issaka and Joe Hatch away with Wales under-17s.
Early on, Endacott and Will Jenkins Davies linked up to almost open up the Hatters defence but the home side recovered to clear the danger.
The young Pilgrims deservedly opened the scoring on 27 minutes when a right wing cross found Endacott, who met it perfectly to power beyond the home goalkeeper.
Although pleased with their first half showing, Argyle had to thank keeper Zak Baker for maintaining their slender lead after he made a fine double save five minutes before the break.
Luton regrouped for the second half and were level on 51 minutes, but Argyle almost restored the lead immediately, after great play between Finley Wilkes and Endacott set up Caleb Roberts for a shot on goal that was deflected narrowly wide.
Despite the Hatters' home advantage and loftier league position, it was Argyle who were pushing hard for a winner. The Greens were unlucky when, on 84 minutes, a trademark Jenkins Davies free-kick smashed against the crossbar.
An afternoon's endeavour without just reward was confirmed in the third minute of stoppage time, when Luton's keeper made two saves in quick succession from Kieran Edworthy and Roberts.
Plenty of positives for the young Pilgrims, despite having to settle for a point.
