YOUTH: Argyle 2 Bristol Rovers 0
Argyle made it three Merit League games undefeated with this deserved victory, in very windy conditions, at Harper’s Park.
The conditions made it hard for either side to create chances in the first half, as Argyle struggled to generate their usual fluency early on, and the sides went into the break goalless.
At the interval, Darren Way made three substitutions, which included bringing on two under-15 players in Caleb Roberts and Kieran Edworthy.
Argyle dominated the second half, but it took them until the 68th minute to make the all-important breakthrough.
Excellent build-up play culminated in Carlo Garside's defence splitting pass, with recipient Angel Waruih superbly lobbing the Gas goalkeeper for Roberts to turn home.
From that moment on, the young Pilgrims controlled the game, creating a number of chances, but it was not until two minutes from time that the victory was secured.
An excellent passage of play down the right flank saw Edworthy race into the area, only to be brought down for a penalty.
Edworthy, son of Argyle legend Marc, defied his tender years by picking up the ball, placing it on the spot, and coolly slotting it home.
Academy coach Darren Way said: "I was really pleased with the second half performance and it was great to see the younger lads stepping up to under-18s football and holding their own.”
