YOUTH: Argyle 0 Newport County 0
The young Pilgrims played out a goalless Merit League draw with Newport County on Saturday morning at Harper’s Park.
Unfortunately, perfect footballing conditions - and a pristine playing surface usually the preserve of the Argyle first-team – could not inspire Greens' under-18 side to find a way beyond a much-improved County side.
The Pilgrims defended with solidity and resilience, led by a confident all-round display from Tyler Coombes in goal, who dealt with aerial bombardments efficiently.
At the other end of the pitch, though, the young Pilgrims lacked sufficient flair to make their own in-roads. On a number of occasions, the hosts got themselves into good areas, only for the final ball to lack the requisite quality to carve out an opening.
