Argyle Academy 6 Yeovil Town 2
Argyle's under-18 side opened their Youth Alliance account with a deserved win over Yeovil Town, blowing the Glovers away at Plymouth Parkway's Bolitho Park ground on Tuesday evening.
Welsh under-15 international Will Jenkins-Davies gave the Pilgrims the lead on 20 minutes when he cut in from the left to beat the goalkeeper at his near post, before Rhys Shirley doubled the Greens’ advantage on 37 minutes, latching on to a right-wing cross to fire home from just inside the area.
Ali Mansaray's rash challenge allowed the visitors to reduce the arrears from the penalty spot just before the interval, but Argyle regained their two-goal cushion just 10 minutes into the second-half, with Shirley supplying a neat finish for his second of the game.
Right wing-back Oscar Rutherford, who joined the Greens from Southampton’s Category A Academy in the summer, fired home from 12 yards to make it 4-1, with Shirley completing his hat-trick on 70 minutes.
Yeovil kept going and were rewarded with a near-post header from a corner, but Charlie Miller completed the rout ten minutes from time.
