Argyle Youth 2 Forest Green 3
THE Argyle youngsters failed to shake off that losing feeling as this was their sixth defeat in their last seven EFL Youth Alliance League and Cup games.
It was Argyle who started the stronger and a 25-yard strike forced FGR goalkeeper Louis Owens into a spectacularly save. Welsh under-15 International Will Davies Jenkins then set off on a forceful run through the centre of the main road, only to see his low effort fly narrowly wide from 20 yards.
Jenkins-Davies found Rubin Wilson from the next attack but the Argyle top scorer fired straight at Owens from 15 yards.
Forest Green got better as the half wore on and Harry Townsend was forced to make a fine save to deny Luke Hallett before the visitors took the lead on the half-hour, when Vaughn Covil met a corner at the near post to bundle the ball home.
The second half was just a minute old when Ollie Tomlinson's back pass was intercepted by Oliver Artwell, who round Townsend to make it 2-0. The game was practically over as a contest on 57 minutes, as Covil found space on the edge of the area to fire low into the corner of the net.
To their credit, Argyle made changes and fought their way back into the game pulling a goal back on 70 minutes when a trialist took substitute Scott Crocker's pass was finished low into the corner of Owen's net from 12 yards.
Hope of a point came into the Argyle minds, five minutes from time, when Owens blocked a shot for Crocker to follow up and net the rebound, but Rovers held on for their win.
