Argyle Draw 3-3 With Southampton
THE Argyle youngsters could have taken all three points after a thrilling game against their Academy One opponents in the Under-15 Floodlit Cup at the Saints Staplewood Training Ground.
The Pilgrims started the game well, taking the lead on ten minutes, when Welsh Under-15 International Will Jenkins-Davies ran through the Southampton defence before coolly slotting past the home goalkeeper.
Southampton came back at Argyle to equalise on 25 minutes when a striker found the roof of James Morley's goal from eight yards.
Morley was adjudged to have committed a foul in his area for the Saints to take a 37th minute lead from the penalty spot but Argyle went in at the break level after Jeffrey Forkuo had fired home from the edge of the area.
Southampton started the second half strongly, enjoying the majority of the possession before taking the lead on the hour. To their credit, Argyle came back at the Saints and their determination was rewarded on 70 minutes when Harvey Field headed home from a right-wing corner.
All three points could have been secured in the dying minutes but Argyle wasted two good opportunities. Their final game in the Floodlit Cup will be against Fulham at Home Park on Tuesday, February 4 with a 6.30pm kick-off.
