Ladies on a Roll
IT has been a remarkable month for Argyle Ladies, who won all five of their September games in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division matches with 26 goals scored and just three conceded. The Pilgrims are now up to second in the league table.
The latest victory was a class display at Milton Keynes in front of 1,109 fans, as goals from Becky Dandridge, Natasha Knapman, Helen Bleazard, Jessica Jones and Kayley Lane saw them come away 5-1 victors. This followed wins against Gillingham (2-0), Keynsham Town (6-1), Yeovil Town (5-1) and Hounslow (8-0).
Argyle are in the middle of a run of five away fixtures and will not be seen at home until they play Watford at Home Park on Sunday, December 8. Next up for the Greens is a visit to Devon rivals Buckland Athletic on Sunday in the National League Plate competition.
Argyle beat Buckland 3-2 in last season’s Devon Senior Cup final and, as is the case in most local derby fixtures, being placed in a higher league counts for nothing in a race for bragging rights. Argyle then have a week’s break before visiting Portsmouth and Oxford United.
One thing that the girls have enjoyed is the small band of Argyle supporters from the London Branch, who have turned up to see them play at Gillingham, Hounslow and Milton Keynes. Manager Dave Leonard said: “The girls really appreciate their support, as they know how their presence encourages them.” It was also good to see over 240 fans turning up at their new home base, the Manadon Sports Hub, to see them beat Keynsham and Yeovil.
Argyle’s Development team have finally got their season up and running when they saw off Alphington 6-1, this after losing their opening three FA Women’s Division One South West league matches.
The youngsters are at Bude Town on Sunday before receiving Exeter & Tedburn Rangers. This is followed by a visit to Feniton, who they play at home a week later in the league cup.
Despite not having a league to play in, the new Argyle Ladies Under-18 team have already beaten Swindon Town away and followed that with a superb 12-0 win over Torquay United Under-18s in midweek.
