Pilgrims Win at Parkway
Plymouth Parkway 0
Argyle 2
C Grant pen 43
Lolos 48
ARGYLE’S second friendly of the pre-season campaign ended in a solid 2-0 victory at Plymouth Parkway from the Western League.
Goals either side of half-time from a Conor Grant penalty and teenage striker Klaidi Lolos was enough for the Pilgrims against resilient hosts, as Ryan Lowe’s Argyle stepped up the tempo a couple of notches from the opening friendly at Truro in midweek.
The first glimpse of a chance at Bolitho Park came from the right boot of Danny Mayor, neatly veering inside from the left flank before curling a fine effort toward the far corner. Goalkeeper Kyle Moore produced a super save for Parkway and Tafari Moore was blocked in his attempt to convert the rebound.
Argyle continued their forward momentum with a decent long-range effort by Adam Randell whistling narrowly over. Parkway, although unable to cause problems at the other end of the pitch, were doing a disciplined defensive job in front of their own penalty area.
Tafari Moore again showed the freedom of his role down the right by surging forward on 40 minutes to deliver a cross that was headed over by Lolos, but the next Pilgrim foray did result in a deserved opener.
Conor Grant was the player to win the penalty, as he was bundled over in the box, and the same man calmly sent Kyle Moore the wrong way with a confident spot-kick. Lowe resisted the temptation to make wholesale changes at the interval, instead just removing Tafari Moore, Mayor and Alex Fletcher, with Joe Riley, Ryan Taylor and Luke Jephcott given their chance to shine.
It was, however, Lolos who grabbed the initiative, effectively killing the game with a lovely goal three minutes after the restart, as he found space to lash a confident finish past the exposed Kyle Moore.
Parkway responded with their best opportunity of the game but former Pilgrim Jordan Copp was denied by a strong save from trialist ‘keeper Jordan Holmes. Lowe reacted by making the Grant swap on 58 minutes, replacing Conor with Joel.
The new Grant soon forced more heroics from Kyle Moore after a delicious pass by Randell. It was the final act for Randell, who again showed impressive maturity in midfield, as he was withdrawn for Cameron Sangster.
The next change provided the first sight of Argyle’s newest recruit, as midweek signing Dom Telford replaced Niall Canavan for the final 15 minutes. Perhaps fittingly though, Kyle Moore left the final impression with another quality save to deny Jephcott.
A good workout for Argyle and tremendous hospitality from Parkway, who showed why they have made such excellent progress in recent seasons, on and off the pitch.
