Legends Collection
ARGYLE Legends will be holding a bucket collection inside and outside the ground for Saturday’s visit of Morecambe in Sky Bet League, as they continue their quest to raise £10,000 for the charity Guide Dogs for the Blind.
The event is the idea of former Pilgrims captain and Legend Leigh Cooper, who, after attending a charity evening last year said: Why doesn’t Argyle Legends do something like this? A brief chat with fellow former players ensued; the charity was chosen and the target was set.
A glittering ball ensued in November, where an amazing amount of £5,200 was raised. Other fund-raising events will be staged to ensure the target is met.
Paul Hart, Argyle Legends secretary, said: “We contacted Guide Dogs, who are naturally thrilled we have chosen them and they have told us that £10,000 will enable us to put a guide dog puppy through training and name the puppy, as well as allowing us two visits to meet the puppy and to follow its progress until it goes on to be a life-changer for its new guide dog owner.
We have decided to call the puppy LEGEND.
Pam Gratton, Community Fundraising Development Officer from Guide Dogs, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Argyle Legends have chosen Guide Dogs as the charity they would like to support at this event and we are looking forward to working with their team.
“Guide Dogs relies on donations and it’s only through the support of the local public and business communities that we can continue our life-changing work. We hope our Name a Puppy scheme gives Argyle Legends an insight into how their generous support helps us assist people with sight loss to ensure they are never left out of life.”
Almost two million people in the UK are living with sight loss that has a significant impact on their daily lives. By 2050, there could be nearly four million
Members of the Guide Dog team will be at the entrance to the turnstiles with collection buckets and at half-time ,former players Leigh Cooper, Chris Harrison, David Byrne and Steve Davey and others will be amongst the crowd to collect donations.
