Callington 0 Argyle 7
ARGYLE maintained their excellent form in the Carlsberg South-West Peninsula League with a powerful 7-0 victory at Callington Town.
Alex Battle and Alex Fletcher helped themselves to five of the goals in a display full of enterprise against a Callington side that battled manfully through the 90 minutes.
A blistering start from the Pilgrims saw Battle cut inside to score from 20 yards and the pressure continued on the Callington goal, with Fletcher twice going close and a Battle shot tipped over the bar.
The second goal arrived on 20 minutes and a clinical finish from Fletcher following a terrific team move. Tom Purrington was the provider for Fletcher’s next goal on the half-hour before Purrington took the glory himself with a well-taken fourth.
Goalkeeper Michael Cooper was called into action with a couple of saves early in the second period but Argyle soon returned to their attacking dominance, as Rio Garside broke the offside trap for a calm finish.
Battle scored from close-range to convert a Fletcher cross and then completed his hat-trick in the dying seconds.
