SWPL v Torpoint A 5-0
OUR South West Peninsula League side got the weekend off to a fine start on Friday night with a resounding 5-0 Premier Division at Torpoint.
Luke Jephcott was the hero of the hour and a half, scoring a second-half hat-trick at the Mill after Alex Battle had given the Pilgrims a 2-0 lead.
Jephcott, recently called up for the Welsh Under-19 side, laid on the first goal in the 39th minute, with Battle heading home his cross.
That is how it stayed until eight minutes after half-time, when Battle scored his second.
Jephcott's first goal came in the 68th minute, when he cut inside of the flank and shot home, and his second came in similar fashion 15 minutes later, by which time Argyle were down to ten men following Cameron Sangster's dismissal for two bookable offences.
Jephcott claimed his hat-trick five minutes from time, beating the Torpoint offside trap before slotting the ball into the bottom corner of the goal to complete a trio of excellent finishes.
The match marked the return from injury of defender Jordan Bentley. The second-year professional succesfully completed the opening 45 minutes of the game, his first taste of action since breaking his leg in a training-round accident in January.
