Central league - Forest Green 0 Argyle 2
ARGYLE marked their bow in the Central League with a 2-0 victory at Forest Green Rovers.
Ruben Lameiras and Dan Rooney scored the goals in the regionalised competition for EFL reserve teams at Rovers’ Stanley Park training-ground in Chippenham.
First-team coach Paul Wotton took charge of the Pilgrims, who will play a total of 12 matches in the competition between now and April.
“It was a good game between two competitive, well-matched teams,” said Paul.
“We got exactly out of the game what we wanted – the senior professionals were excellent and led by example, and the young boys did well, too.
“We scored two good goals. The only thing we could have asked for was maybe a few more goals, especially in the second half.”
The Argyle line-up included Antoni Sarcevic, who is suspended from first-team action, but eligible to play in the Central League.
There will be home and away fixtures for Argyle against Forest Green Rovers, Bristol Rovers, Swindon Town and Cheltenham and one-off games MK Dons and Southend United, at home, and AFC Bournemouth and AFC Wimbledon, away.
Argyle manager Derek Adams intends to use the games to give game-time to members of the first-team squad who need match-minutes, players coming back from injury, and young Pilgrims’ development.
Argyle: (4-2-3-1): Robbert te Loeke; Harry Hodges, Callum Rose, Jakub Sokolik, Ryan Law; Antoni Sarcevic, Dan Rooney; Lionel Ainsworth, Alex Battle, Ruben Lameiras; Alex Fletcher.
