Dementia Adventure

THE Football Cafe is providing new opportunities for people diagnosed with dementia...

...creating opportunities for football-loving people to engage with others on a range of fun football-related activities that can help exercise the brain.

As part of the Football Cafe, we are seeking to recruit and train a new team of volunteers, who will work closely with the participants to help them take part in the activities and embrace the whole concept.

Our volunteers will be encouraged to contribute your ideas and help implement football-related activities. We will provide a training/awareness module, lasting around 90 minutes. We are also drafting a Volunteers’ Charter, so everyone understands our approach and aims.

Ideally, we are looking for enthusiastic young volunteers, who have a passion for football and a passion for doing something special in their community.

Plymouth Argyle and Argyle Community Trust has also joined forces with 41 GP surgeries across the region and, with a major sponsor, we are looking to offer a ‘Football Friend’ package, where our volunteers will team up with a group of football supporters living with dementia to attend first-team games at Home Park.

This will be for seven selected home matches across the season, dependent on the availability of the volunteer, so we can ensure participants build a strong relationship with their ‘football friend’.

As a football club, we are extremely proud to be the pioneers in a project of this type, working closely with GP surgeries in the Plymouth area to offer something new and enterprising for people living with dementia.

It is a fantastic opportunity to make a significant different to someone’s life. To find out more, please contact Anne Smith on anne.smith@akkerongroup.com or call 07812 175435.
