Argyle U18 2 Swindon Town 4
2nd September 2014
ARGYLE'S mini-run of two consecutive victories came to an end at Tavistock where they found the unbeaten league leaders too hot to handle in the latter stages of the game.
It was Argyle who started the stronger of the two sides and Ben Steer should have done better when Jake Miller's pass found him in space on the edge of the box. However. his first touch let him down and Robins goalkeeper Claude de Costa was able to block his shot. That miss was forgotten, on nine minutes, when Billy Palfrey's superb ball in from the right found Jason Vincent racing in at the far post to volley the ball in to the roof of the net.
Steer brought a good save out of de Costa before Callum McCormick saw his low 18 yard drive was well saved by Andrew Hannah. Louis Rooney then spurned two great chances to increase the lead as Argyle ended the half on top.
The second half was four minutes old when Vincent chased down an underhit backpass to win his challenge with de Costa and steer the ball past a covering defender to double Argyle's advantage.
Hannah brave save denied Amir Gied before Miller saw his shot fly narrowly wide. The same player then forced de Costa into making a fine save from his fierce drive.
The game turned in the 64th minute when the impressive Gied turned sharply in the box to fire past Hannah and worse was to come as three minutes later Josh Cooll lashed home Swindon's equaliser.
Rooney was not having the best of days in front of goal as he put a good chance wide at the near post before Swindon took the lead with Cooll again on target.
Once again Argyle had the chance to level but substitute Alex Fletcher fired wide at the far post.
The game was in the third minute of stoppage time when substitute Aaron Taylor's challenge on Tom Ouldridge gave Will Randle the chance to complete the scoring from the penalty spot.
Argyle: Andrew Hannah, Billy Palfrey, Jamil Roberts, Will Sargent, Jordan Bentley (Aaron Taylor 84), Tom Moxham, Ben Steer, Jack Calver (Alex Fletcher 79), Louis Rooney (Liam Knowles 77), Jake Miller, Jason Vincent. Substitute not used Cory Harvey.
