Luke On Our Side
2nd November 2014
LUKE McCormick’s continued good form between the sticks for Argyle has solidified John Sheridan’s belief that he possesses the best ‘keeper in the division.
The Pilgrims’ 1-1 draw against Burton Albion at the Pirelli stadium was down in a no small part to a string of important stops by McCormick, who has been an ever-present for the club so far this season. The shot-stopper showed excellent positioning on a number of occasions to thwart good efforts by the likes of Stuart Beavon and Lucas Akins, and he was helpless to stop Alex MacDonald’s scuffed strike to trickle over the line after 31 minutes.
After Reuben Reid converted the penalty he won with 20 minutes remaining, McCormick made an outstanding stop in the dying embers of the game from Adam McGurk’s header, diving to his left whilst moving in the other direction to athletically deny the Burton substitute.
“Luke’s made one or two decent saves today,” said John Sheridan after the game. “I thought he was excellent today.
“They (Burton) get the ball forward early with a bit of quality. The big lad (Lucas) Akins was a problem all day with his directness.
“For me, he is the best ‘keeper in the division, so long may he continue playing for us, and playing the way he is doing. He’s earned his keep.”
