ARGYLE’S starting line-up at Torquay this weekend contained only two players who had begun the corresponding fixture the previous season.
Not one of the back five that lined up in the 3-1 defeat at Plainmoor on November 19, 2011 appeared in this season’s engagement.Only midfielder Luke Young and forward Warren Feeney turned out in the Green at the Gulls’ nest for the second successive season.
Warren’s partner less than 10 months ago – in an encounter which ended early for him after he was crocked by Brian Saah – was Craig Sutherland, on loan from Blackpool at the time, and now sidelined by injury.
His fellow Seasider and loanee then, Paul Bignot, who was part of the defence, is still waiting for his Blackpool debut more than a year after signing for the Championship side.
Centre-back Ben Gibson is on loan at npower League 1 Tranmere Rovers, though he has yet to make a start for them, while his partner at the heart of the defence last season, Curtis Nelson, started this year’s encounter on the substitutes’ bench. Onismor Bhasera was away on international duty for Zimbabwe.
Of the midfield in November last year, captain Simon Walton is struggling to establish himself at league 1 Hartlepool after impressing in pre-season; Luke Daley is without a club after being released by Argyle and, then, Blue Square Conference side Lincoln; and Will Atkinson is in and out of League 2 Bradford City’s stating XI.
And the goalkeeper last time we met played at Torquay? Romain Larrieu. Whatever happened to him?
