DARREN Purse will lead Argyle into the new season.

Darren, 35, has been chosen by Pilgrims' manager Carl Fletcher as the successor to previous captain Simon Walton.

Midfielder Walts, 24, left Home Park last week and has signed for League 1 Hartlepool.

Evergreen veteran defender Darren joined Argyle from Millwall in November last year and made 24 dominating appearances in the heart of the Pilgrims' defence, weighing in with two goals.

"I had a couple of players I could have picked after Walts left," said Fletcher, "but Darren fits the bill for me.

"I wanted a centre-half as captain and his experience and knowledge of football speaks for itself."
