No Fingers At Feeno
24th December 2012
THERE were no recriminations in the Argyle dressing-room after Warren Feeney missed a late penalty...
...that would have given a below-par Pilgrims all three points from their visit to rain-drenched Accrington.Substitute Feeno’s 82nd-minute spot-kick was saved by Paul Rachubka, which meant the game ended deadlocked at 1-1.
Fellow striker Nick Chadwick said: “He wanted to step up and take it, and he’d scored two late penalties at Morecambe so he deserved the chance to take another one.
“Unfortunately the keeper’s made a good save. That’s football.
“No-one’s pointing any fingers at Feeno. If he hadn’t scored two late penalties at Morecambe, we wouldn’t have got three points there.”
Rachubka was subsequently sent off for aiming a butt at Chaddy after the Argyle striker had slid in to try to profit from a loose ball.
“I thought I was going to get on the scoresheet and get us the winner, but he did really well to fingertip it away,” said Nick.
“Then, for some reason, he got a little bit angry that I wanted to try and score. He put his head into mine, and he probably regrets it.
“It was handbags, really.
“There wasn’t a problem with the discipline of our lads. We all stuck together. Away from home, that’s what you need to do.”
