Yeovil Youth 2 Argyle Youth 1
13th August 2012
ARGYLE'S youngsters had a bad start to the defence of their Football League Youth Alliance South West Conference title as they went down 2-1 in Somerset.
"Our back four wasn't really troubled and both their goals came from long range shots which the lad probably won't see the likes again this season," explained Argyle's Academy manager Kevin Hodges."From my perspective, we tried to play in the right way and I was very pleased with the way we approached our passing game. Although we had lots of possession I would have liked to have seen us create more goalscoring opportunities.
"That's not to say we didn't have chances but it was not quite enough for the amount of possession we enjoyed and we need to become more clinical in front of goal," he added.
Hodge's youngsters were on top in the early stages but were caught by Yeovil's 25th minute opening goal, which was somewhat against the run-of-play.
William Agbo made the most of having the wind behind him to let fly from 25 yards with a low drive that flew into bottom corner and into net despite Argyle goalkeeper Christian Walton getting a hand to the ball.
Argyle found themselves two goals adrift, five minutes later, as Agbo tried his luck again, this time from 20 yards and this time his drive went high into the roof of the visitors net.
The second half was a fairly even affair and it was not until 10 minutes from time that Argyle finally pulled a goal back when midfielder Andrew Elcock (pictured above) scored with a dipping 20 yard drive that flew just under the Yeovil bar.
