Argyle Women claimed their first win of the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division season in fine fashion against MK Dons on Sunday.

A 5-1 win away from home, with goals from Charlotte Whitmore, Lulu Jarvis, Katie Dickson and Taya Pomfret, handed the Greens three points at Stadium MK.

Argyle dominated the game in chances and possession, with the Dons’ only goal of the game coming from a defensive error. Annaleise Jacovides pounced onto a loose pass and placed the ball into an open goal. This made the game 2-1 at the time, but Argyle powered away to win the game comfortably.

Starting immediately on the front foot, it took only three minutes for Whitmore to score her first of the game. The forward pressed high, picking off a loose pass from the MK Dons defence and slotted home after rounding Anna Draper in goal.

Chance after chance continued to flow, alongside the pressure on the Dons back four, and a bit of magic from Lulu Jarvis extended Argyle’s lead before the 40th minute. The attacking midfielder cut onto her favoured right foot and released a curling effort to the far post, beating Draper and bouncing in off the woodwork.

After the break, Jacovides grabbed that goal back for the hosts, but the one goal difference lasted for only four minutes, as two in quick succession put Argyle in prime position for the remainder of the tie.

A composed Katie Dickson finish from a cross and a tidy strike from Whitmore pushed the Greens’ lead to four, prior to Pomfret’s header marking the fifth goal of the game for Argyle.

Despite holding a four-goal lead, the pressure and chances continued to come. Substitute Ellie Sara hit the crossbar minutes after coming onto the pitch, but the ball did not cross the line in the eyes of the referee and his assistants.

The win leaves Argyle ninth in the league table, and hands MK Dons their third loss in as many matches.
