Argyle Women

Argyle Women secured their first win of pre-season in fine fashion, beating Yeovil Town 6-0 at Manadon Sports Hub.

Ryan Perks’ side controlled possession for large spells across the 90 minutes of play and punished their opponents with some strong team build-up and counter-attacking football.

A brace from Charlotte Whitmore and goals from Ellie Sara, Grace Perrins, Jade Berrow and Erin O’Shea secured the victory in comfortable fashion.

Argyle, playing in the club’s new pink warm-up jersey due to a kit clash with fellow greens Yeovil, started the game on the front foot, pressing high and causing the Glovers’ defence problems through left-to-right ball movement.

After some close calls and corners, the Greens found an opportunity to test Yeovil’s keeper with a free kick on the edge of the box. As many expected a cross, Roxy Thomas’ quick thinking and shot cannoned off the crossbar and back into the box, where a goalmouth scramble ensued.

Whitmore opened the scoring just after the half-hour mark, volleying home, with Sara converting a penalty just minutes later to double the scoring before the half-time whistle.

Minutes into the second half, Whitmore added her second and nearly claimed a hat-trick with her effort missing just over the bar. Berrow and O’Shea added Argyle’s fifth and sixth in the final third of the match, scoring with finishes inside Yeovil’s penalty area.

Argyle now have one day of rest before travelling to Coach Road, Newton Abbot, to face Torquay United on Tuesday, 23 July.
