Livewell South West

Leading health and social care provider Livewell Southwest are partnering with Argyle Community Trust, official charity of Plymouth Argyle, to support the health and wellbeing of residents in Devonport and beyond at the exciting new Brickfields redevelopment.

Plymouth City Council, Argyle Community Trust, and Livewell Southwest have committed to work together to develop a community wellbeing hub which follows the ethos, values, and principles of the wider Plymouth Wellbeing Hub Programme. The partnership aims to:

  • Build a greater sense of community
  • Improve health and wellbeing outcomes for local people
  • Improve people’s experience of care
  • Improve health and wellbeing equity
  • Improve the sustainability of the health and wellbeing system
  • Create a greater integration of services

Livewell Southwest and Argyle Community Trust have a long-standing and proud history of successful partnerships, delivering projects and sessions to support the physical health and mental wellbeing of its communities. The organisations have collaborated on projects like ‘It’s A Goal’ aimed at tackling mental and physical health through football, supporting the delivery of PL Kicks targeted youth programmes, as well as a mutual support and signposting of community members to specific programmes to support individual needs.

Livewell Southwest is an independent, award-winning social enterprise supporting people across Plymouth, South Hams, and West Devon, as well as some specialist services for people living in parts of Devon and Cornwall.

They provide integrated NHS physical and mental health services and adult social care within Plymouth and the surrounding area with a primary aim of helping people of all ages to live their best lives - supporting them to live healthily and independently at home.

Livewell currently provide community health and wellbeing services within Plymouth’s wellbeing hubs. This can range from weight management groups, to falls prevention exercise classes and perinatal mental health support.

Geoff Baines, Deputy Chief Executive of Livewell Southwest said: “We jumped at the opportunity to be involved in this new project as the city’s community health and wellbeing provider. There is a shared vision of what this new facility can be for the local community and wider city.

“Brickfields will be an extension to our existing offer at other wellbeing hubs and we will announce details of services in the coming months. Importantly we will listen to the local community to understand what is important to them and design service provision accordingly to make this a true focal point for health and wellbeing in this corner of Plymouth.”

Argyle Community Trust have been supporting the health and wellbeing of the communities of Plymouth, Devon, and Cornwall for nearly 30 years.

The Trust utilise the prestige of football and reach of the Club to inspire, engage, and help people of all ages, genders, races, and socioeconomic statuses, focusing on removing barriers to participation and offering opportunities that are accessible to all. The Trust have a particular focus on supporting disadvantaged and isolated communities, underrepresented groups, and at-risk children, young people, and adults.

Ben Kerswell, Health and Wellbeing Manager at the Trust, said: “We are delighted to have partnered with our friends at Livewell to deliver some exciting and groundbreaking health and wellbeing support at our flagship facility.

“Without the support of organisations such as Livewell, the ambitious plans to support our communities at our new facility would not be possible.

“Livewell and Argyle share many important visions and values and a passion to support those in need. To provide this support for local people in partnership with an organisation of Livewell’s calibre and prestige will ensure we give the community the health and wellbeing support they deserve for generations to come.”
