Preview | London Seaward v Argyle Women
Argyle Women take a break from league action this weekend with a match away from home to fourth-tier side London Seaward in the FAWNL Cup.
The Greens come into the league cup off the back of two defeats at home: a 1-0 against Billericay Town and 2-1 against Portsmouth. Manager Ryan Perks had this to say earlier in the week regarding Argyle's recent run of form: “We’ve been playing well over the last two weeks; we just need to work on things in the final third. The girls have done all we’ve asked them both in training and on the pitch, we’ve just been unfortunate in front of goal.”
Argyle’s previous fixture in the league cup was against AFC St Austell Ladies, a game which the Greens went on to win 5-1. A brace from this season’s top goalscorer Lily Greenslade and goals from Beth Ireland and Charlotte Whitmore sent Argyle through to the next round.
London Seaward currently play in the FAWNL Division One South West. The Anchors occupy fourth place in the league and come into this game in a positive frame of mind.
Perks said: “They're on a good run of form and have scored a few goals in the lead-up to this game. It’s been a bit difficult to try and source information on them for our analysis, but we’re going to try and focus on ourselves this week and build some momentum with a positive result.”
New signing Georgia Wilson will be joining the travelling Greens this season after being cleared internationally, a signing which will both bolster the quality and depth of the squad for this weekend’s match.
The game will be held at Wadham Lodge, Walthamstow. Kick-off is at 2pm, tickets cost £6, £4 for concessions. Under-14s have free entry. If you can’t make it to the game, then updates are available on social media @ArgyleWFC.
