Preview | Argyle Women v Billericay
Argyle Women play their second game in a row at Manadon Sports Hub this Sunday as the Greens take on newly promoted Billericay Town in the FA Women's National League.
Argyle will return to league football with a positive and confident feeling following their most recent match in The Click Hub Devon Women's County Cup. An 11-0 win against local side Marine Academy Plymouth not only secured a semi-final place for the Greens in the county cup but also gave manager Ryan Perks a chance to assess his side after their previous league result, and work on improving key areas on the pitch.
“We weren’t really worried about the scoreline,” said Perks. “It was about how we performed, how we played, being patient in the final third, looking at combinations and working on things that we put into practice in training, and they’ve executed that perfectly.”
With all the gaffer’s boxes ticked after the performance and outcome, Perks’ attention now returns to league action. Billericay are fifth in the league, with ten points after eight games. The Division One South East winners go into this game on a good run of form after scoring seven goals and conceding two in both of their previous league matches against Gillingham and Crawley Wasps. Newly appointed Blues manager James Gibson will also be making his touchline debut for the opposition this weekend and will be keen to kickstart his first game in charge with a positive outcome.
“They're a very organised team,” said Perks. “They work hard for each other and try and get behind the ball. They’re fifth in the league and come into this game with a couple of wins under their belt so they’ll be coming into this full of confidence. Their manager has also just changed so it will be interesting to see if they change anything going into this match.”
Both teams will be hoping to continue their positive forms following a positive result from this Sunday's match. A win for Billericay will mark their first three points won away from home since the season started, and a win for Argyle would see the continued run of wins secured at home this season.
The game will be held at the Manadon Sports & Community Hub, kick-off is at 2.30 pm, tickets cost £5 for adults while Under-3s have free entry. If you cannot make it to the game, then updates are available on social @ArgyleWFC.
