YOUTH: Torquay United 0 Argyle 9
Argyle's youngsters were without an EFL Youth Alliance fixture on Saturday, and decided to fill the slot with a friendly against Torquay United’s youth team at Stoke Gabriel's GJ Churchward Memorial Ground.
It will be a day that the Gulls will surely want to forget, especially the second half, when Argyle ran in six goals to make it an incredible return of 15 in two fixtures, after beating Yeovil Town 6-2 last week.
Once again it was their Welsh wingman Will Jenkins-Davies who opened the Pilgrims’ account after just four minutes, before two quick goals from Oscar Rutherford and Jeremiah Medine completed the first-half scoring.
The second-half had barely begun when Oscar Halls made it 4-0, with the Torquay defence having no answer to the Greens’ free flowing football.
Rhys Shirley made it 5-0, to add to last Tuesday's hat-trick against Yeovil, with Angel Waruih, Charlie Miller and wo late goals from Jamal Salawu completing the scoring.
Argyle's under-18 head coach, Darren Way, was very satisfied with his side’s performance, saying: "The last two results have been very rewarding with the group scoring 15 goals.
"The players have worked extremely hard pre-season, and we feel the results have reflected that. They have built up a real togetherness in a short period of time and it's been enjoyable to watch them in training and on matchdays."
Argyle: Tyler Coombes (Lewis Moyle 45), Ali Mansaray, Oscar Halls, Finley Craske, Charlie Miller, Oscar Rutherford, Will Jenkins-Davis, Carlo Garside, Jeremiah Medine (Angel Wariuh 55), Oscar Massey (Jamal Salawu 60), Scott Crocker (Rhys Shirley 60).
